Hey. I'm Matt. Welcome to my world.
I'm a 29 year old Brit. I love to travel. A lot. I've always got music in my ears. I like to think I could be the next Lewis Hamilton. One day...
Until that day, I'm navigating the world of marketing. I'm an Account Director for a multi-award winning global agency (The Marketing Practice, if you're interested). So I thought I'd create a bit of a 'safe space' for those who wanted to learn more about my journey so far.
Feel free to drop me a line with any questions, comments, feedback, or just to say hi.

The early days.
Born in Portsmouth. Raised in Shrewsbury. Played in Pwllheli.
I was on live TV once. Once being the operative word. I stole a microphone from Anthea Turner and wouldn't give it back. Maybe that was a sign of things to come? I was also told off for getting in the way of the Olympic torch, when it was on its journey up and down the country. And I told a terrible joke to HRH Prince Philip. How often do you get to tell him a joke? Opportunity wasted... When I wasn't causing issues with the royalty of the world, you could usually find me rowing along the River Severn, or lapping up the sunshine in the Quarry Park. Most of my family lived in a small town called Pwllheli. So instead of holidays to Spain or France, it was North Wales for us. But at aged 12, who was I to be fussy.

The uni days.
I called Aberystwyth home whilst I was at uni. l loved Aber. I still do, in fact. It's a bizarre little place. Everyone knows everyone, and everyone gets along. And on the one day of the year the sun shines, it's probably the most beautiful place in the world. Well, maybe the UK. Ok, maybe Wales. West Wales...
I had my own radio show too. The Matt and Will Show. I had my sights set on becoming the next Chris Moyles or Scott Mills. Aled Haydn Jones (off of BBC Radio 1) even recorded a jingle for us! But a career on the airwaves was never to be.
Thankfully the radio didn't get in the way of my work. I was a student ambassador, course rep, treasurer of our student society (The Biz), and ended up graduating with a first class honours degree in Business and Management, with the highest grade on the course! I was pretty content with that.

The Formula 1 days.
Slight break from the timeline. But, *shameless plug (it's the radio days coming back...)* I've always dreamt of a career in F1. So if you happen to be a recruiter for an F1 team looking for a superb marketer, I'd highly recommend this guy I know called Matt Jones...
F1 is a big part of my life. You could say I'm a little obsessed. It was even the basis for my dissertation at university.
I once used my Twitter prowess to score a paddock pass for the Australian Grand Prix courtesy of the Sauber F1 Team - I still feel pretty chuffed about that!
I won a social media competition with Mercedes-Benz a few years ago, too. I ended up as their Social Reporter for the British Grand Prix, was given an AMG for the weekend, went to a swanky event with Mercedes top brass (and Lewis and Nico of course), and had VIP treatment during the race weekend.
I try to visit a new Grand Prix each year. So if you're heading to a race this year, drop me a message.

The travelling days.
Like I mentioned at the start, I really love to travel. I love to explore a new place. But I also love how meeting new people from different cultures opens your mind to a new perspective. You'll always learn something. I've made some great friends around the world and I hope I'll make many more.
Before the marketing days, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a year out exploring some of the world.
There are some awesome places in the UK, and Europe is a hive of cultural experiences. But I loved Asia (it helps that it tends to be hot and sunny there). From trekking along the Great Wall of China, absorbing a show in the Sydney Opera House, taking in the sights and sounds of Singapore, scaling the Petronas towers in Kuala Lumpur, and just remaining in one piece in New Zealand (hiking glaciers, jumping out of planes, bungee jumping, circumventing volcanoes, escaping tornadoes. Literally...). I've been lucky with my job too, that I've had the chance to see more of the world. More on that next...

The marketing days.
I'm now an Account Director at The Marketing Practice, an award winning B2B marketing agency with offices in Oxford, London, Seattle, Sydney, and Munich.
I joined as part of their graduate programme, and now I'm responsible for running complex international marketing campaigns for industry-leading tech enterprises.
Prior to the Coronavirus pandemic I was fortunate enough to spend 3.5 years working internationally for TMP. After a brief stint running a project for Canon Switzerland, I relocated to Seattle as we opened and grew our US operations, and to lead our work with Microsoft and ServiceNow. That even involved a 6-month trip to Sydney too!
I'm now back in the UK leading our work with Verizon, but who knows where I'll end up next... I’m certainly looking forward to the world opening back up.
